How NeonSign works

A plain-English guide to every feature — what it does, why it helps, and how to use it — plus our disclaimers and limitations.

Listing optimizer & full editor

What it is. Pick one of your listings (or describe a new product) and open a full editor that rewrites the title, description and tags around one coherent keyword core — with per-field AI and a one-click Full SEO optimize.

Why it helps. On Etsy, the title, tags and description are how buyers find you. The strongest listings use the SAME keywords across all three, mixing a popular head term with easier long-tail phrases. Doing that by hand for every listing is slow — the optimizer builds the whole semantic core for you, while you stay in control of what ships.

How to use it

  1. Open Listing optimizer and choose a listing (or the New product tab to start from a description).
  2. Click Full SEO optimize: it analyses the hero photo, then rewrites title, description and tags together so the keywords overlap and run from popular to long-tail.
  3. Prefer to work field by field? Use the AI optimize button on the title, description or tags individually.
  4. Review and edit everything — you decide what's accurate. Save changes (or, with a connected shop, push back to Etsy).

Listing health score & hero photo grade

What it is. A live 0–100 health score for each listing, scored against Etsy's own ranking and quality signals, plus a separate A–F grade for the main (hero) photo.

Why it helps. It's hard to know what's holding a listing back. The health score turns that into a clear checklist — keyword coverage in the title and tags, description depth, photo count, video, alt-text, variations and stock — and updates as you edit. The hero photo grade flags listings whose first image (the thumbnail buyers judge first) could be doing more.

How to use it

  1. Open any listing — the health panel shows the score, how many checks pass, and a specific tip for each one.
  2. Work down the failing checks; the number rises live as you fix them.
  3. Read the hero grade (A–F) on the main photo and in the listing grid to spot thumbnails worth improving.
  4. The score is a number, the photo is a letter — so you can tell them apart at a glance.

Keyword research

What it is. A live search over a large keyword database (about 1.3 million phrases) returning real search volume, difficulty (KD) and competition — up to 500 related keywords per search — plus AI ideas cross-checked against the same database.

Why it helps. Choosing the right keywords is the difference between ranking and being invisible. High-volume terms are competitive; lower-difficulty long-tail terms are where small shops often win. Pulling hundreds of related phrases with real numbers lets you find the pockets you can actually rank for, instead of guessing.

How to use it

  1. Type any keyword and search — you get up to 500 matching and related phrases straight from the database, including specific long-tail terms.
  2. Sort by Keyword (A–Z), Searches, Difficulty (KD) or Competition by clicking the column headers.
  3. AI ideas appear above the table; a green chip means the idea was found in the database with real numbers, otherwise it's an estimate to validate.
  4. Download the results as CSV, or feed the strongest terms into the optimizer.

Bulk editor

What it is. A spreadsheet-style table of your listings with three modes — Prices, Keywords and Variations — for editing many listings at once, plus a per-row expander for photos, variations, materials and personalization.

Why it helps. Running a sale, refreshing SEO, or restocking normally means opening every listing one by one. The bulk editor turns that into a few clicks: select listings, pick a mode, apply the change to all of them — or expand a single row to fine-tune it without leaving the table.

How to use it

  1. Prices: edit price and stock inline, or select listings and bulk increase/decrease by % or set a fixed amount.
  2. Keywords: see and edit tags inline, add or clear keywords across selected listings, or run Full SEO optimize on the whole selection.
  3. Variations: add variation types and values; with two variations you set price and stock per combination in one grid; add materials and personalization too.
  4. Expand any row to reorder photos by drag (first = main), add photos/videos, write or AI-generate alt-text, and edit variations. Save changes when done.

Mockup studio

What it is. A composer for product mockups: upload your base product once, drop in a customer's logo or engraving, place and size it on a chosen scene, and export the result.

Why it helps. Sellers of personalized or engraved products (mugs, signs, boards) need to show buyers what their custom item will look like. Building each mockup by hand is slow. The studio lets you reuse a saved product, position a logo exactly, and produce a clean preview in seconds.

How to use it

  1. Save your product photo (it stays available for every future mockup) and upload the customer's logo.
  2. Toggle Remove background to key out a solid logo background, then drag the logo onto the product.
  3. Resize and rotate the logo with the on-image handles or the sliders, and pick a scene and proportions.
  4. Download the mockup as a PNG. (A connected workspace adds photorealistic AI renders that keep the product and logo pixel-faithful.)

Photo studio

What it is. Tools to generate fresh scenes around your own product photo and to enhance photos you already have.

Why it helps. The first photo is the thumbnail buyers judge in a fraction of a second. Clean, well-lit, on-brand images lift click-through. The studio helps you produce more listing-ready shots from what you already have.

How to use it

  1. Upload your own product photo.
  2. Choose Generate to place your product in a new scene, or Enhance to clean up an existing shot.
  3. Your real product stays the same — only the scene or quality changes.
  4. Download the result and add it to your own listing.

Promotion & Pinterest

What it is. Guidance and tools to drive traffic to your shop from outside the marketplace, including connecting Pinterest to publish pins from your listings.

Why it helps. Search inside Etsy isn't the only way buyers find you. Pinterest, in particular, is a strong, long-lived source of traffic for handmade and home goods that links straight back to your shop.

How to use it

  1. Connect Pinterest from the Promotion page.
  2. Turn your best listing images into pins that link back to your shop.
  3. Plan seasonal boards ahead of busy gifting periods.
  4. Use the promotion ideas as a simple checklist between launches.

Connecting your shop & how we use data

What it is. An OAuth connection that lets NeonSign read your own listings and save changes back, through Etsy's official API.

Why it helps. To import your listings and push updates automatically (instead of copy-paste), the tool needs your permission to act on your shop. OAuth is the secure, standard way to grant that — you authorize access, and we never see your password.

How to use it

  1. Click Connect shop and authorize NeonSign on Etsy's own screen.
  2. We request the minimum permissions needed to manage your own shop.
  3. Access tokens are encrypted at rest. We act only on your shop, only when you ask.
  4. Disconnect at any time — access is revoked immediately. We never access other sellers' private data or contact buyers.

Disclaimers & limitations

We want to be clear about what NeonSign is and isn't, so there are no surprises:

  • Not affiliated with Etsy. NeonSign is an independent tool. The term 'Etsy' is a trademark of Etsy, Inc. This Application uses Etsy's API, but is not endorsed or certified by Etsy.
  • No guaranteed results. AI suggestions are a starting point to save you time — they are not a promise of rankings, traffic, or sales. You review and decide what to publish.
  • You stay responsible for your listings. You are responsible for the accuracy of your product information and for following Etsy's own policies for everything you publish.
  • Your shop only.We work exclusively with your own shop and your own content, through Etsy's official API. We never scrape Etsy, never store other sellers' private data, and never message buyers.
  • Your data is private. Credentials are encrypted at rest, never sold, and never shared with third parties. See our Privacy Policy.
  • Keyword and search data are indicative. Search volume, difficulty (KD) and competition come from a third-party keyword dataset. They are signals to guide decisions, not exact or guaranteed figures.
  • Scores are guidance, not verdicts. The listing health score reflects checkable Etsy best-practices (keyword coverage, completeness, media). The hero photo grade is an estimate based on those signals — not a judgment of your photography. Both are there to prioritise, not to grade you.
